Winemaker Benjamin Silver Notes

Trentotto File means 38 Rows in Italian. In 2001 I took 38 short rows of Chardonnay at White Hawk Vineyard in Los Alamos, and grafted them to two different clones of Syrah: Clone 470 which is more meaty gamey, and Clone 174 which is more berry fruit and spice.
White Hawk Vineyard ripens later in the season, allowing of a very long hang time. The ancient sand dune soils cause the vines to struggle & limit what can be ripened.
The 2010 Trentotto File is built for the table with the low 13% alcohol, and is not a sipping wine. More N Rhone/European in style than Californian, it has been mistaken for a French wine numerous times.
This vintage has a long life ahead, and it will age fantastically well. Drink now through 2030.
