Winemaker Nathan Carlson Notes

The 2004 Vintage was short due to early ripening varietals coming in 2 weeks late and longer hanging varietals coming in about two weeks early. The crop it self was also a little smaller. These conditions were felt state wide and growers of all sizes were hoping the 2004 harvest was going to be the end of an over abundance of grapes on the open market. With 2005 being a larger than normal year this was not true… but that’s another story. To the winery staff this means everything feels as though it is coming in all at once. For Petite Sirah this vintage had very ripe bright characters with well balanced acid and tannins. Balanced tannin with big rounded fruit was a great beginning for the vintage. As the saying goes…Bad wine can be made ...more... from great fruit, but great wine can not be made from bad fruit.
NOSE: Dark fruit of Blue berry, Cassis and Black berry with earthy molasses
MOUTH: The rich velvety fruit picked up in the nose glides across the palate with filling tannin char
