Winemaker David DeSante Notes
Many people forget that Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape that came to Napa from its home in Bordeaux, France. The 2011 vintage – with its Bordeaux like coolness - reminded Napa winemakers of this famous grape’s roots. Who better to understand this concept than Mario Bazan? Having managed the famous vineyards of Opus One, Mondavi, and many producers of distinction, Mario’s take on this vintage is worth tasting…and enjoying. Aromatic cedar, Damson plum and subtle notes of black tea leaf make this an intriguing glass to hold. The flavors are straight from Bordeaux with ripe plums, pomegranate, crushed violets, and a subtle spice of clove making this a vintage to remember. The texture is supple and soft, yet refreshing. This is a de ...more... ftly balanced wine that will develop additional layers of complexity over the next decade. This great grape may have come to Napa from Bordeaux, but we have been able to add a layer or two. If ever there was a vintage to compare to Bordeaux, this one may be the most appropriate. Whatever your conclusion, 2011 will be a vintage that you will want to revisit to enjoy.
