Winemaker Justin Michaaud Notes

2013 was a great grape growing season in WA State. The Horse Heaven Hills AVA was above its long term average for GDD by 150 units. With warm temperatures throughout the summer it seemed like an early harvest was inevitable but a cool September helped grapes develop flavors while slowing down ripening. Primitivo was one of the earlier red varietals we picked in 2013. Tasting Notes: Big and bold this is a wine with power and finesse. Aromas of plum and oak are noticeable at first while more subtle aromas of tar, boysenberry and dark chocolate can also be noticed. The flavors are like a rich jam, you can feel the weight of the wine on your palette. Even with a high alcohol the wine has a very smooth finish with good length.
