Winemaker Bruce Regalia Notes

After five vintages of making Zinfandel from the fruit from the Firebrick Hill Vineyard in the Redwood Valley of Mendocino, we continue to be amazed at the breadth and depth of flavors these grapes show from vintage to vintage. The 2008 vintage was a mélange of blackberries, anise and plum to give it somewhat of an Asian character. In 2009, the blackberries were accompanied by raspberries and cinnamon and spice box notes on the finish. The 2012 Firebrick may be the finest expression of these grapes yet: dominant raspberry notes with hints of strawberry and blackberry followed by a very long, unctuous finish of cinnamon spice and wild cherry. We tasted this wine over a period of several hours and as the wine opened up the fruit seemed t ...more... o intensify and the spice and cherry notes became more pronounced. This is clearly the very best Firebrick we have made to date, an opinion that seems to be confirmed by the results of the Riverside International Wine Competition on May 7th, at which our Zinfandel was given both the Chairman’s Award (unanimous gold) and Best of Class among Zinfandel varietals.
