Winemaker Chaim Gur-Arieh Notes

Primitivo, which is also known as Zingarello is the major growing grape of Apulia in Southern Italy. Zingarello makes a heavy strong wine with the alcoholic potency of port. DNA testing has confirmed that Primitivo is genetically related to California’s Zinfandel. Based on DNA profiling, it has been theorized that both Primitivo and Zinfandel are clones of the Croatian variety Crljenak.
This Estate grown Primitivo comes from a two acre vineyard block that we call Block #4. I have chosen to make this wine from grapes produced in this block because it produces more flavorful and concentrated fruit.
This wine was made in our “Submerged Cap” Fermentation Tank. It was aged in predominantly French oak barrels for a ...more... bout 10 months. This wine has very floral fruity aromas which carry to the palate. You can detect raspberry, Marion berry, black cherry, plum, blackberry and even peach aromas and flavors. This wine has good structure, complexity and a well balanced acidity. It has a lingering finish of black cherry, mocha and spice.
