Winemaker David Ready Jr. Notes

This is not your run of the mill wimpy Merlot. It’s sourced from bench and hillside
vineyards, where the grapes struggle in character-building conditions. The anchor
for this wine is Merlot grapes from Val Peline’s Terra Rosa vineyard which contribute
big abundant tannins. We also added 1% Petit Verdot for depth and 0.5% Cabernet
Sauvignon for added structure. The secret to our success is treating our Merlot like
a Cabernet Sauvignon with a cold soak, extended maceration and aggressive cap
management. The result is more concentrated, intense fruit and, by extension, a more
