Our grapes were planted in 2004 by 13 family members in 3 days. It takes four years of pruning, fertilizing before the grapes are ready to be made into wine. The wine changes each year because the grapes get more mature. They do not get replanted unless they die.
We start pruning in late February, early March and continue through Spring and Summer. Harvest is usually in mid to late August, depending on the Brix (sugar count) and acid in the grapes. We detect this by gathering grapes randomly throughout the vineyard, then crushing them by hand and testing the juice. The grapes are picked when the winemaker is satisfied they are ready.
