Winemaker Betsy Spann Notes
This is our first varietal bottling of Malbec, a grape we have worked with since 2005, but have previously used only for blending into our Cabernet Sauvignons for mid-palate richness. Malbec is similar to Merlot in that it makes a velvety smooth wine, but it is darker in color, richer in flavor and tends toward black cherry wheras Merlot is more red cherry in aroma and taste. Malbec can be one dimensional so we added 10% Petit Verdot for more structure and 10% Merlot to enhance the cherry aroma. This wine is lush in the mouth and, although immediately enjoyable, will continue to grow in complexity for at least 8 years after the vintage date. Try this with any grilled or roasted meats or game birds.
