The story of Martellotto Wines begins in the famous wine region of Southern Italy called Puglia, in a small town called Alberobello, "The Place of Pretty Trees."
In the Old World, our family helped build the Trullos of Alberobello: unique and charming stone dwellings in a round shape. In fact, our family name—Martellotto—means "Big Hammer." Today, the Martellotto legacy lives on through these Trullos of Alberobello, which are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for their mortarless construction and unique slate roofs. A Trullo is the shadowed image on the front labels of our 2006 vintage wines.
In the 20th century, the Martellotto family immigrated to America to continue "hand-crafted Italian traditions that stand the test of time"—this time, by making artisanal wines....
