Spann Vineyards is at 1,800 feet of elevation in the Mayacamas Mountains of Sonoma Valley where they grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Sangiovese. Co-winemakers Betsy and Peter Spann were brought up on classic European wines and believe strongly in blending grape varieties to build richly flavored wines with balance and elegance. They feel that the four most important attributes in wines are complex aromas, a rich mouth-feel, a long, smooth finish and food-friendliness. They age their wines in a mixture of new and older French oak barrels to accentuate but not dominate the wonderful fruit aromas and taste of the grapes in each blend. Although the winery was recently founded (2001), the Spanns have a combined 70 years of experience in the wine business.
